Is The Killer Super Flu Here? Is It The ‘Mystery Illness’ In Texas The Same Affecting Other States?

In the video below this article the mother of the youngest of eight confirmed cases of a mystery illness in Montgomery County is sharing her shares her sons heartreaking story, but seeing a report from CultureMap Houston where doctors are wondering if this isn’t a new “super flu” along with the documented evidence of a sickness affecting Louisiana showing the same symptoms, one has to wonder if we aren’t in the midst of a multi-state sickness that kills fast and has doctors scambling.
Health department representatives tell CultureMap that no diagnosis has been made for an unknown illness that begins with symptoms resembling the flu. In a matter of weeks or even days, however, victims develop serious complications including organ failure.
So far all patients have tested negative for influenza, although health professionals are awaiting further lab results.
“The big worry about a situation like this is, ‘Could this be a novel flu of some sort?’ ” Dr. Mark Escott with the Montgomery County Public Health District tells KHOU Ch. 11. “It could certainly be lots of other viruses or other diseases, but that is the big concern.”
Eight cases have been reported in Texas, four have died.

The CDC has released another series of H1N1pdm09 sequences, which included two more cases with H274Y, signaling Tamiflu resistance. One of those sequences, A/Louisiana/13/2013, from a Louisiana case, 22M, is virtually identical (in all 8 gene segments) to the first 3 Louisiana cases with H274Y (A/Louisiana/07/2013, A/Louisiana/08/2013, A/Louisiana/10/2013). However, unlike the first three cases which were collected in a tight window in October (between October 7 – October 9), the latest sequence is from a November 11 collection, more than a month later, signaling ongoing clonal expansion.
In addition to these four cases in Louisiana, a Mississippi isolate, A/Mississippi/11/2013, which was also collected in November, also has H274Y and is closely related to the Louisiana sequences. These sequences raise concerns that this sub-clone is spreading in the south, where influenza levels are high. The latest CDC FluView reports more than 96% of influenza A cases as H1N1pdm09 (and 94% of influenza is influenza A).
According to Beaumont Enterprise, four states – Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi are all reporting high levels of influenza-like illness.
Is this a “mystery illness” or is this the start of the much talked about super flu or a “novel flu” that doctors are unprepared for which could lead to a pnademic? Would our government be forthcoming and tell us?
