Examining recent government actions causes some to think Washington may be preparing for large-scale civil unrest. While we can only speculate what Washington thinks, we can read what others conclude. In two pieces published in Forbes by Larry Bell (March 10) and Ralph Benko (March 13) they question what Washington is planning on doing with all the bullets, automatic rifles, and armored personnel carriers recently purchased or acquired from the Army by the Department of Homeland Security.

A number of other outlets have suggested the same when they uncovered the voluminous and strange purchases.

The DHS is a combination of a number of agencies, which include the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA): the people we see screening at the airport, Customs and Border Patrol (keeping illegals from entering), the Coast Guard, and scores of other agencies the general populace is less familiar with.

A concerned public, through then public means, discovered a large stockpiling of bullets by the DHS. Several aspects of the purchase could be considered suspicious. The first concerning question: Why so many bullets? The number is over a billion rounds, which is a volume not seen before and out of the range of normal use.
