In 1938 Adolf Hitler introduced the German Weapons Act. This restricted ownership of firearms to “persons whose trustworthiness is not in question and who can show a need for a (gun) permit.” The law included several provisions to sweeten the legislation, but the crucial addition (essential for one particular part the Nazi agenda) was:

His infamous ‘Final solution’ might have faltered, or even failed altogether, if the Jewish community had been armed. There would be no modern State of Israel, no Palestinian genocide.
