QUETTA, Pakistan – A moderate 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck near Quetta, Pakistan. The earthquake was followed by a mild intensity earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale shook parts of Balochistan on Monday, Geo News reported. According to preliminary reports, the quake was felt in Quetta, Ziarat, Harnai, Chaman, Pasheen, Khanoi, Qallat, Mastaung, Qilla Saifullah and others parts of Balochistan. Panic gripped the residents of the provincial capital and they came out of their houses. No loss of life or property has been reported so far. The Meteorological Department said that the magnitude of the quake was recorded 4.5 on the Richter scale with epicenter 60 kilometer in south-east of Quetta. Sitting near the Durand Line border with Afghanistan and close to Kandahar province, Quetta is a trade and communications center between the two countries as well as an important military location which occupies a strategic position for the Pakistani Armed Forces. –International Times
