New York mayor Michael Bloomberg’s nanny state on food philosophy has arrived in Los Angeles.

Last week the Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved a measure calling for an official “Meatless Mondays” and a call by the government for all residents to abstain from eating meat.
“It’s part of an international campaign to cut down on meat consumption for health and environmental reasons,” NBC 4 in Los Angeles reported on Friday.

The Meatless Monday campaign was started in 2003 in association with Johns Hopkins University’s public health school.

Back in 2001 the school was renamed the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in honor of the man who recently forced New Yorkers to give up the Big Gulp under penalty of law – Michael Bloomberg.

The original Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health was founded in 1916 by John D. Rockefeller.
