EU Commissioner Calls Google an “Orwellian surveillance apparatus”

Back in April, the Federal Communications Commission fined Google Inc. $25,000 after finding that Google “deliberately impeded and delayed” its investigation into the manner in which it collected photographic data for “Street View.” Google has a market cap of more than $200 billion, so it is unlikely that such a fine will deter it from taking pictures wherever it pleases and impeding and delaying any ensuing investigation by a United States agency.
