Last night’s This World: Inside the Meltdown on BBC 2 was the story of the Fukushima meltdowns

‘If they withdrew, six reactors and seven fuel pools would be abandoned’, [Former Japan Prime Minister Naoto] Kan told the programme. ‘Everything melts down. Radiation tens of times worse than Chernobyl will be scattered.’

TEPCO forbid its employees from speaking to the press. However, a few broke ranks to speak out about their fears. ‘Many of us thought of running away, but there was no escape. If you actually ran you would be exposed to radiation.’
