The acrid odor of gun smoke had barely cleared the air over the Safeway Supermarket parking lot in Casas Adobes, in the Greater Tucson area of Pima County, Arizona on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011 before Democratic politicians and leftwing talking heads were placing the blame for the tragedy at the doorstep of former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP veep running mate Sarah Palin—and on Tea Party organizers and supporters.

Interestingly, if you recall, in the aftermath of the Fort Hood shooting, the left called for calm and not jumping to conclusions when Army Major, psychologist and Ob-Gyn medical doctor, Nidal Malik Hasan shouted “Allah Akbar” (God is Great) as he opened fire on military personnel, killing 13 and wounding 28. Everything about Hasan said he had been radicalized. Nothing about the 22-year old mass murderer, Jared Loughner, suggests he was either a Sarah Palin groupie or a Tea Party camp follower. In fact, Loughner’s history suggests, if anything, he’s a white supremacist with Marxist leanings who was brainwashed by both the strident far right and the strident far left—at the place where political polar opposites meet on the backside of the ideological sphere, out of touch with reason, where the anarchists live.

Eighth Congressional District Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords [D-AZ], the apparent target of the attack, was shot in the forehead from a distance of two or three feet away by a 22-year old neighborhood assailant, Jared Loughner After he shot Giffords, Loughner unleashed his fury on others in the proximity of the Congresswoman. Indiscriminately killed in the attack were US District Court Chief Judge John Roll, age 63; Gabe Zimmerman, age 30 (Giffords’ Director of Community Outreach [and the reason for flags over the Capital and the White House at half mast]); Christina Greene, age 9 (a student from Mesa Verde Elementary School); Dorwin Stoddard, age 76 (a pastor from the Mountain Avenue Church of Christ); Dorothy Murray, age 76; and Phyllis Scheck, age 79. Thirteen other victims were airlifted to area trauma centers.
